Fashion trends of the decade drew much inspiration from

1960s,1970s and 1980s styles.Hair styles included the bleached and

spiked hair for boys and men and long and straight hair for girls and

women continued, as well as many other hairstyles from the mid-late 1990s.

Throughout the early and mid 2000s,

adults and children wore Skechers shoes. The company used many celebrities to

their advantage, including Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Carrie Underwood, and

Ashlee Simpson. By the late 2000s, flatter and more compact shoes came into style as

chunky sneakers were no longer the mode. Hip hop fashion was popular throughout the 2000s

with clothing and shoe brands such as Rocawear, Phat Farm, G-Unit clothing, Billionaire Boys Club, Dipset clothing, Pelle Pelle, BAPE, Nike, and Air Jordan. Followers of Hip Hop wore oversized shorts, jewelry, NFL and NBA jerseys, pants, and T-shirts.

Growth in the internet contributed to globalization during the decade, enabling faster communication between people worldwide. Economic growth in the 2000s had significant consequences for social, environmental and mass eradication. Demand for falling energy resources increased and remained vulnerable, which caused the financial crisis in 2007-08.

The fashion houses rented chairs, the powerful "garish power" styles fell and made room for the credit card, and the death of Princess Dianas and Gianni Versace killed the world. The early 00's influenced the styles of the 60's and 70s, where a new laid-back style materialized.

Art and culture
Britain experienced a new form of fashion renaissance when Alexander McQueen graduated in 1992. His exams were spotted by the Vogue stylist Isabella Blow, which was the year of his first appearance in Vogue, in November of that year. Britain was back in fashion focus again when John Galliano changed the history of the fashion by being appointed head of the French haute couture house Givenchy.

Peruvian photographer Mario Testino chose to book the lowest ranked of the 'uber' models during the 90's. He refused to pay the expensive prizes on Linda Evangelista, Cindy Crawford, Naomi Campbell, so Testino chose a new pool of models, including Kate Moss. Known for taking the famous Vanity Fair front of Princess Dianna, he experienced a wealth of success during the nineties and subsequent years from his fresh, glamorous reality as his photographs showed.

With the advent of film, the Oscars were seen as an excellent place for designers to showcase their work. This led to the Oscar models being copied directly from the red runner to the High Street stores in America.

Nicole Kidman and Tom Cruise were seen on the Red Runner in 1991 in a short black velvet, Valentione pallet dress and Tom Cruise an oversied tuxido. Sharon Stone carried a Vera Wang ball dress / skirt in 1999, but put it together with a white shirt from Gap, which she borrowed from her husband's wardrobe.

Other memorable dresses included Kim Basinger when she reached the Oscar Award in 1990 in a mermaid style princess dress, covered with a long-sleeved jacket. Since the dress had been designed by herself, it was not seen as Oscar worthy. Elizabeth Hurley was seen in the 1994 Four Words and a Funeral premiere dressed in a Versace silk crepe dress held together with big gold safety pins.

Vivienne Westwood Westwoods 1993 collection, Anglomania, contained tartan skirts, suits, high shoes and terned patterns. The high shoes were the ones that had the greatest influence on the audience, also called the Super Elevated Gillie platform shoes. The stunning high platforms were carried by Naomi Campbell, who fell famously during the fashion show.

Alexander McQueen Known for his dramatic clothes, McQueen began to be noted for his teather-like catwalk shows. Aside from the fact that McQueen sent Aimee Mullins to the runway in 1998, he had previously shown models that went through water in 1997 and in 1999 the couture collection showed a spray painted robot.

In 1993 a new subculture - grunge emerged. Beginning in Seattle, USA, the grunge subculture originated from the style of Nirvana and Pearl Jam. Forest men's shirts and, in general, the forest's tern, were worn with t-shirts, hats, jeans and converse shoes. The hair should fall far and a generally unmasked appearance was necessary. Together with grunge style, punk experienced a revival in New York, Milan and Paris with provocative short skirts, safety pins, kilts and raw textures, seen by designers Yohji Yamamoto, Chanel, Gianni Versace and Thierry Mugler. In the first half of the 90's, the cardigan jacket also reshaped the formal silhouette, the new shoulder was curved and the new shape was loose. Together with tunika wearing soft flared pants, with simplicity in mind. The slip skirt became hugely popular, wearing worn / punched nylon stockings beneath the bare legs that could be skimbed, draping from the chest, waist or hips. In the second half of the 90's you see longer skirts and alternative suits. Matching garments from previous years were more relaxed in softer forms. Simplicity, abstinence and conceptual chic were a general theme that was especially popular with Issey Miyake, Commes de Garçon, Calvin Klein, Martin Margiela and Hussein Chalayan in the late 90's. Everyday fashionable through the decade, often high-pitched jeans and t-shirts tucked in oversize sweaters, and black nylon tights with holes where to dresses or white socks and trainers. Inspired by the 60's and 70's, the flowers skirts, blouses, turtleneck tops were put in use again. Design labels now produced casual / silent shows that should show chic and elegance.

American TV shows like friends became increasingly popular. The program inspired the viewers with fashion trends and hairstyles, especially 'The Rachel' hairstyle. Our beloved and iconic show, Sex and the City, started in 1998 with a whole new world of Jimmy Choo, Manolo Blahnik and Christian Louboutin. This epoch saw an increase in rave culture mainly derived from England, Germany and America. A new scene / world was created with masses of electronic dance music, more hard fabrics between the young and new fashion types emerged. The rave culture had their own uniform of neon colors, polka dots, short skirts, crop plates and a lot of bare skin.

Designer Issey Miyake had been working on new methods of pleating / draping since the late 80's, resulting in a new technique called material pleating in 1993. In First, the material was cut and sewn and then placed between layers of paper and then passed through a heat press where they were "pleated". The pleats helped to remove the paper and thus the garment part was ready to be used. In 1996, Alexander McQueen performed his fashion show "Dante", where his reconstructed low-heeled pants, seen in the 60's and 70's, were shown on the model by Kate Moss. Critics pointed out that the bumsters looked like what you wanted to see on a construction site. The most low-key styles seen by McQueen were not carried, though some of the more "little" bumsters were carried. Following the pants trend, Italian company Diesel achieved global power in jeans in the 90s with its presence in 40 countries. Followed by Wilbert Das' direction, Diesel opened its first flagship store in New York and with their advertising campaign dealing with social and political commentators mixed with black humor, Diesel jeans began to dominate.

Catwalks

The decade started with the futuristic Y2K fashion which was built on hype surrounding the new millennium. This dark, slinky style remained popular until 9/11 occurred and casual fashions had made a comeback once again. Baggy cargo

pants were extremely

popular among both sexes throughout the

early and mid 2000s

until about late 2007.

Bell-bottoms were the dominant

pant style for women

until about 2006 when

fitted pants began

rising in popularity.

The late 1990s-style baggy pants remained popular throughout the early 2000s, but by

2003 boot-cut pants

and jeans became the standard among men

until about 2008.

The 2000s saw a revival

of 1980s fashion trends such as velour tracksuits in the early 2000s.

Mass brands Gap and Levi launched their own lines for skinny jeans.

One of our tasks was to make 10 outfits related to the time epoke we had chosen.

I choose to make mine out of cut-out from magazines and more, likewise

some of my other projects. To show the some trends never will go out of fashion,

I have reused or reconstructed some of my older cut-outs, which had nothing to do with

the 90's-00's, and made them fit to that times fashion. My designs from my exam appears in

the other projects I've done, since some of the styles & trends never have been going out of fashion or history.

Working progress

My outfit is inspired by the grunge-,

punk/rock culture & The Oscars with some elements from the early 00's.

Corsets came back in fashion late 90's-00's, so I've added some draping

and velvet which was popular back then. To make it more my style I

added some black and gold details which appears in almost all of my designs.

Then I chose to make it shorter, so I could achieve a crop top. The skirt is

made out from the grunge style, since denim and low waist was very in. The

tulle is from the punk/rock epoke where everything had to be tulle, but I chose

to make it more elegant so it actually could go as a night gown.

The jacket's model is inspired from the grunge styles leather jacket, but to make it more "fashion today" I used neoprene, added some more fabrics for the design and of course gold and black details, and then I made the model shorter to get the 00's vibe into it.
